Small Business Donations to Local Charity

Last modified: December 9, 2011

Local charity donations are an essential part of building a healthy reputation for any small business owner. Gestures such as this will help to nurture seeds for social change while opening up a way for small businesses to stay active in their community. Understandably, not every gesture will be substantially generous; however, any donation will assist in setting the pace for the development of a positive brand and community image.

Building the Donation

As a convenient means of sparking the interest of employees, community members and other local small businesses, small business owners will take to campaign ideas successful in the collection of donations and the participation of members. Frequently, small businesses take to collection techniques that will promote participation from a number of different groups: children, adults, students, etc. The first step in building a successful donation campaign is developing the campaign idea. The campaign doesn’t have to be over the top as long as the interest of the participating audience has been triggered.

On the other hand, the donation may be strictly funded by the small business organization itself. If your small business offers a product or service that could quite possibly benefit a large market, it may be ideal to donate a $500-$1,000 worth of that product or service. More frequently we see small businesses donating a small portion of each sale they make to a local charity or foundation.
